How to remove duplicates from import file in Excel before CRM import

Before you import your file into OnePageCRM, it's recommended that all duplicate contacts be removed. To check if there are any duplicates in your import file, apply the following operation in Excel:

1
Open your import file in Excel (2007, 2010, Excel for Microsoft 365).

2
Highlight the range of cells (all the data in your case).

3
On the Data tab → under the Data Tools section, click Remove Duplicates.

4
In the Remove Duplicates pop-up:

  • Tick the My data has headers to exclude the column headers from this operation.
  • Under Columns, select one or more columns that might contain duplicates.
Once the selection has been made, click OK.

Select columns for detecting duplicates.

💡 To quickly select all columns, click Select All.

💡 To quickly clear all columns, click Unselect All.

💡 If your table has many columns, it might be easier to click Unselect All first, then choose only the columns you need.

6
A message will be displayed indicating how many duplicate values were removed and how many unique values remain, or if no duplicate values were removed. Click OK to finish.

No duplicates found message

💡 Removing duplicates only affects the selected range or table.  Values outside the range of cells or the table are not altered or moved.

💡 Before removing duplicates, copy the original range or table to another worksheet or workbook as a backup.

💡 Analogical functionality is available in Google Sheets. Click on Data → from the dropdown select Data clean-upRemove duplicates.
